Session 23
At Dawn We Slept: The Writing of an Epic

Perhaps the most revered book ever written on the Pearl Harbor attack is Dr. Gordon Prange's seminal volume, At Dawn We Slept. What is not known is that book was, for the most part, written by two graduate students, Donald Goldstein and Katherine Dillon from the University of Maryland. Dr. Goldstein recounted stories about Professor Prange and his obsession with collecting every detail about Pearl Harbor and the Pacific War. Who was Gordon Prange? And why has At Dawn We Slept continued to be the book to read on Pearl Harbor?

Speakers: Dr. Donald Goldstein - Dr. Goldstein is the preeminent authority on the Pearl Harbor attack and he is the instrumental force and author of Gordon Prange’s numerous works on Pearl Harbor. Dr. Goldstein is a professor of history at the University of Pittsburgh. His monumental contribution was producing At Dawn We Slept.
