Leavelle, Jim

Session 14

Mr. Leavelle was a young gunner’s mate aboard the USS Whitney during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served throughout the Pacific War and saw numerous actions. After the war, he became a detective for the Dallas police department. In 1963, he was one of the first to interrogate Lee Harvey Oswald after President Kennedy’s assassination. Mr. Leavelle was handcuffed to Oswald when he was shot by Jack Ruby. The photograph that captured the murder won the Pulitzer Prize.

Lundstrom, John

Mr. Lundstrom is the former curator of American and military history at the Milwaukee Public Museum. He served from 1967 to 2005 in that capacity. John is considered by many as one of the finest author and historian concerning naval aviation and strategy in the Pacific War. His book, The First Team, was a wonderful addition to the understanding of the early actions in the Pacific War. His current book is a biography of Admiral Jack Fletcher titled Black Shoe Carrier Admiral.

Maeda, Takeshi

Session 13
Monday, December 4 2:50-3:40pm

Mr. Maeda was a warrant officer and aviator from the carrier Kaga. He saw action at Pearl Harbor as a crewmember aboard a torpedo plane that attacked Battleship Row. Later, at the Battle of Midway, he was wounded aboard his carrier by bomb fragments that struck near his ship.

Martinez, Daniel

Session 8
Monday, December 4 8:55-9:35am

He is currently the historian for the National Park Service at the USS Arizona Memorial. Mr. Martinez specializes in Pearl Harbor attack history and photos related to that event. He has written a number of articles regarding that experience and is the co-author of Kimmel, Short and Pearl Harbor: The Final Report Revealed. Mr. Martinez was the host and historian in residence for Discovery Channel's Unsolved History.

Nicholson, Dorinda

Session 16
Tuesday, December 5 7:40-8:40am

She was a nine-year-old girl who witnessed the Pearl Harbor attack from her home in Pearl City. She would later write about that experience in her book Pearl Harbor Child.
