Seiden, Allen

Session 1

A writer, photographer and Hawaiian archivist and historian, Allen Seiden has lived in Hawaii since 1974. He is a recipient two Ka’ahili awards for projects of cultural relevance from the State of Hawaii. His work has appeared in newspapers, magazines and books around the world. In 2001, Mr. Seiden authored From Fishponds: Pearl Harbor, a Complete Illustrated History.

Sekigawa, Brad

Session 15

Mr. Sekigawa is considered one of the finest model builders in the state of Hawaii. He has provided model exhibits for the USS Arizona Memorial and other museum in the Hawaiian community. His current contribution is the aircraft used in the first wave attack that are currently part of the permanent exhibit of the aircraft carrier Akagi located at the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center.

Smith, Douglas

Session 5
Sunday, December 3 10:35-11:35am

Dr. Douglas V. Smith is a Professor of Strategy and Head of the Strategy and Policy Division at the U.S. Naval War College. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Naval Postgraduate School, and the Naval War College and holds a doctorate in military history from Florida State. Doug specializes in the naval history of WWII and in particular, the five carrier battles of the Pacific war.

Soucy, Lee

Session 11
Monday, December 4 12:30-1:50pm

Mr. Soucy was a Pharmacists Mate 2nd Class aboard the USS Utah. That vessel, formerly a battleship, was now an auxiliary with a hull number AG-16. Mr. Soucy would tend the wounded from the USS Utah and other vessels at an aide station set up at the new BOQ at Ford Island. Lee would serve with distinction in the US Navy throughout the Pacific War.

Spain, William

Session 25
Tuesday, December 5 3:10-4:10am

Associate Dean of Academics, William R. “Bill” Spain, Col. USMC (Ret.) was previously the head of the Joint Military Operations Department at the U.S. Naval War College where he developed the course to include detailed study of campaigns of WWII. An expert on amphibious warfare, WWII and especially WWII in the Pacific, Dean Spain is one of America’s leading authorities on the Battle of Leyte.

Stillwell, Paul

Conference Moderator

Author and contributor to Naval History Magazine. Considered to be one of the finest naval historians, he authored Battleship Arizona and his current work, The USSMissouri.

Stratton, Don

Session 11

Mr. Stratton is a survivor from the battleship USS Arizona. The circumstances of how Don survived the cataclysmic explosion are miraculous. He is but one of a handful of men who were shielded from the blast in a gun director located on the port side of the ship. He served his country throughout WWII in the Pacific and became a hard-hat diver after the war. He is the first Pearl Harbor survivor to have an action figure modeled after him.
