Thompson, Pat Session 16 |
This ten-year-old girl found herself attending the Battle of Music on the night before the Pearl Harbor attack. She loved to dance and that night participated in the jitterbug contest with a sailor named Jack Evans from the USS Tennessee. Just prior to the 60 th anniversary, Pat began the search to locate her former dance partner and found that he was living just a few miles from her home in San Diego. They were reunited at the anniversary and danced together once again. |
Tyler, Kermit Session 9 |
Kermit Tyler had a long and distinguished career in aviation for the US Army and retired as a Lt. Col. At the time of the Pearl Harbor attack, then Lt. Kermit Tyler was assigned to the information center at Fort. Shafter. It was on his watch that the radar station at Opana notified him of unidentified planes coming in from the north towards Oahu. |
Wenger, Mike Session 12 |
Mr. Wenger is considered by many as a scholar of the photographic history of World War II. His first publication of note was Pearl Harbor: The Way It Was. He has gone on to publish books on D-Day and the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan. |
White, Dr. Geoffrey Session 25 |
Dr. White has been teaching at the East-West Center in Manoa for over 10 years. He has written a number of articles and conducted studies at the USS Arizona Memorial. He has been a consultant to the National Park Service on issues concerning visitation of both American and Japanese visitors. Geoff has also authored a publication on the Pacific Islander experience in World War II. |
Yoshida, Jiro Session 13 |
Jiro Yoshida was a naval aviator who was trained towards the end of the Pacific War. He saw service in the defense of Japan. After the war, he had a successful business career and helped formulate the Japanese Naval Aviators Veterans Society. |
