USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center Museum
The entrance to the museum is to the left of the bookstore. Photographs here show the early development of Pearl Harbor as a US naval station. Originally, the harbor was called Wai Momi, or Pearl Waters, due to the abundance of oysters and the pearls they produced. The US was granted exclusive use of the harbor by the Hawaiian government in 1887 when the Treaty of Reciprocity was signed. The US Navy was given the right to establish a coaling and repair station, while the Hawaiian kingdom was awarded duty-free access to US markets for its sugar.
