Witness to History Videoconference Program

Not everyone can visit the USS Arizona Memorial personally. The Witness to History Videoconferencing program provides students and educators on both a national and international level with a unique and invaluable distance learning opportunity dedicated to the history of December 7, 1941. Through firsthand accounts, artifact examination, and expert historical interpretation the events surrounding the Pearl Harbor attack come alive for students.

The Witness to History video teleconferencing program is sponsored by both the National Park Service (NPS) and the United States Navy/Marine Learning Network.  These two organizations have vested interest not only in telling the story of Pearl Harbor, but in preserving the cultural and historic significance of the USS Arizona.  The program is funded by the Arizona Memorial Museum Association (AMMA), a non-profit organization dedicated to financially supporting the National Park Service's educational and interpretive initiatives.

Participation is FREE.

AMMA's Witness to History is comprised of unique programs related to the events of December 7, 1941:

• The Pearl Harbor Survivor Series enables Pearl Harbor Survivors to tell their stories of December 7, 1941 to schools and other interested groups. Pearl Harbor Survivors actively participate to the fullest extent possible but their availability is understandably limited. Schools are advised to contact the video conference coordinator to reserve a date and time.

• The Inside the Vault / Curator Series is presented by an Archive Specialist. Original paintings and artifacts not open to the visiting public are displayed with a voice-over interpretive lesson.

Further programs are under development that will allow students to visit the USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Center and Museum, take virtual field trips to Oahu Attack Sites and other War in the Pacific sites, and tour beautiful, tragic, and historic Kalaupapa , Molokai. Please visit AMMA's education web pages often for updates.

Evaluation is an important step for effective videoconferencing. Participants are encouraged to download and complete the Evaluation Form to help AMMA fulfill curriculum needs.
